New! (to us anyway!)
Bone Horses by Lesley Poling Kempes. I picked this book up in Abiquiu on our New Mexico trip. Once I started it, I couldn't put it down. Of course it had two of my favorite things - horses and the New Mexico desert. And romance of course!! ( I guess that makes three things!)
The Longmire Series by Craig Johnson. We watched the series on TV then started reading the books. There are differences of course, but the books are so well written that they are addicting!
Louise Penny - Armand Gamache series. All 11 books in this series are just plain wonderful to read. Begin with “Still Life” to get acquainted with all the characters.
Julia Spencer Fleming - Claire Ferguson and Russ Van Alstyne. Set in upstate NY, Claire Ferguson is the local Episcopalian priest, and Russ Van Alstyne is the local police chief. The first one in the series is “In the Bleak Midwinter.” This is a great audio series too.
Anne Hillerman, “Rock with Wings” and Spider Woman’s Daughter” takes up the mantel of her late father Tony Hillerman. Set on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona, and beautifully crafted.
Tony Hillerman - Jim Chee and Joe Leaphorn series. Set on the Navajo Reservation, these stories are a marvelous mix of mysterious deaths and Navajo traditions. Start with “The Blessing Way.”
C.S. Harris – Historical fiction starring Viscount Devlin (Sebastian St. Cyr), who is great at solving murders the local constables can’t figure out. The first one is the series is “What Angels Fear”.
Victoria Thompson – Historical fiction set in New York City in the early days of the 20th century. Features midwife Sarah Brandt and Detective Frank Malloy solving murders and other mysteries together.
Catherine Coulter's FBI series . . . currently reading Nemesis. It's a page turner!
Women’s Contemporary Fiction
Mary Alice Monroe has written many books set in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. Her latest series is “The Lowcountry Summer Trilogy”. Start with “The Summer Girls”.
Emilie Richards - Quilter and Author of the Shenandoah Album novels, she has many other wonderful novels to be savored.
Anne River Siddons - another Southern writer. Some of my favorites are Fault Lines, Low Country, Sweetwater Creek.
Admit it - we all love a good romance novel!
Robyn Carr - The Virgin River Series and Thunder Point Series. You can’t help but fall in love with the characters and root for true love!
Diana Gabaldon - The Outlander Series. Historical, sci-fi, adventure, romance! I couldn’t stop until I had read them all. Will she ever finish Book Nine?
Jan Karon – the Mitford Series featuring Father Tim Cavanaugh and an “interesting” cast of characters from Mitford, a fictional town in North Carolina.
J.K. Rowling – the Harry Potter series. I know, I know, this is supposed to be a kid’s series, but I have just listened to the audio of these books for the third time and loved it!
Suzanne Collins - The Hunger Games Trilogy. This Young Adult Trilogy became Amazon’s best seller, surpassing the Harry Potter Series. Also a series of films. (But the books are better!)
